Microsoft Edge ditches the old PDF reader to add Adobe Acrobat

Microsoft announced changes for the built-in PDF reader in Microsoft Edge. The company has started phasing out the old PDF engine for a new one that will be supported by Adobe Acrobat. The retirement of the older technology is scheduled for early 2025.adobeacrobatlogo

According to the company below is the release schedule

March 2023: The new PDF engine started rolling out to regular Edge users.
Early May 2024: Rollout to regular users is expected to be complete.
Midsummer 2024: Opt-in policy for managed devices also available.
Early 2025: The legacy PDF engine will be removed.

Users can access the new PDF engine by enabling the “New PDF Viewer” flag at edge://flags internally.

Those who prefer the old PDF reader can continue to use it for now. Either way, it will be removed for good in early 2025.
