Microsoft Edge with RAM limiting mode

Microsoft is preparing a new new feature for the Edge browser. Those unhappy with the amount of RAM Microsoft Edge consumes will be happy to hear that the company is testing a built-in memory limiting feature that will prevent the program from exceeding user-set limits.

The new RAM throttling feature was spotted in Edge Canary by @Leopeva64 at X (formerly Twitter). 6565481wqaacgby

Microsoft plans to allow its customers to limit memory usage when playing games (the browser will be able to detect this automatically) or always. A special slider will allow you to specify how much memory Edge should not exceed. You will also be able to control RAM consumption and limits.

The upcoming memory limiter will be a useful addition for all Microsoft Edge users, regardless of how powerful their hardware is. Limiting RAM usage will help reallocate resources to more important applications when performing resource-intensive tasks.

Of course, limiting Microsoft Edge's memory won't be painless. Microsoft warns that limiting RAM usage can negatively affect browser performance.

You can test the new Microsoft Edge memory limitation feature in the latest Canary version of the app (Settings > Performance > Performance Monitor or > Performance > Performance Detector).
