Microsoft promotes PC Health Check application on Windows 10 systems via update. See how you can uninstall it.
Microsoft with update version KB5005463 automatically installs the PC Health Check application. KB5005463 will be available through Windows Update on systems running Windows 10 2004, 20H2 and 21H1 (no word on the upcoming Windows 10 21H2). The company states that it does not intend to promote the update for computers that have already been upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
For the record, Microsoft an update was recently released of the PC Health Check application which is quite detailed, since the original version of the program was withdrawn because it did not provide basic information.
PC Health Check is designed to provide compatibility information to users. The application checks if the Windows computer meets the system requirements of the Microsoft Windows 11 operating system.
The application provides other basic information and diagnostics, including battery, device storage capacity, boot time, Windows Update, and backup and synchronization.
Microsoft has published a support page on its website for update KB5005463 which provides additional information about the installation.
Microsoft does not disclose why it wants the application to be installed on Windows 10 devices. One explanation is that it wants the application to be on devices to provide compatibility information to administrators to improve the process.
Another is that it is interested in boosting PC sales, and what better way to do that than by telling users that their devices are not compatible with the company's new operating system. Again, the application does not start automatically after installation via the update.
Windows 10 is supported until 2025, but the focus of development has shifted to Windows 11. Some features of Windows 11 will find their way into Windows 10, but most will not be available in the previous version of Windows.
Windows 10 users who do not want the application on their feet can uninstall it as follows:
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Go to Applications
- Search for PC Health Check.
- Select it and then click the Uninstall button.
PC Health Check can be downloaded again from the Microsoft website anytime.
