Microsoft announced in January that Windows 10 will be completely free for computers running Windows 7 and 8.1. But the company seems to be looking for new ways to entice new customers.
This time, the company mentioned in one of the vague announcements released a few weeks ago that the Office app will be completely free for small devices. This will allow more people to have the benefits of the Office productivity suite, it depends device that they use.
According to Microsoft all devices with screen under 10,1 inches are considered part of the “mobile” category. So, all devices with screens up to 10,1 inches will be able to have Office at absolutely no cost, as the company clarified today.
Basically, the company continues the freemium approach to small devices, designing in addition to free packet to offer others with more features for a subscription.
“In these devices, the processing core and projectionIt will be free, but there will be premium membership features,” said Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president of teams Office 365 Client Apps and Services.
So all Windows 10 for phone devices will have Office preinstalled.
A desktop version of Office, called Office 2016, will be released this year, and probably in the second half of 2015, after the release of the Windows 10. Pricing for this application version is unknown.
The reasons why Microsoft is proceeding with the free disposal of its products, apart from searching for new customers, is the retention of old ones. The plethora of office applications on the market made the company's production suite free of charge a necessity.
