Microsoft loves Linux: Is Microsoft seeking a divorce?

Microsoft loves Linux: We could say there's a big love here, but it does not seem to last long.

As observed by Redditor BaronHK and confirmed by Techrights Microsoft doesn't let some computers install anymore except for its special edition Windows 10 Signature Edition.

BaronHK first discovered the problem when it tried to install a Linux distribution on a Lenovo Yoga 900 ISK2 ultrabook, but it claims the restriction still exists on other Lenovo devices, such as the Yoga 900S and Yoga 710S.Linux

According to BaronHK, the issue has been around for a while used by Lenovo that locks the BIOS of devices to prevent installation of other operating systems.

Lenovo has already confirmed the of BaronHK on the BestBuy website, but it still points to Microsoft.

"This system has the Signature Edition of Windows 10 Home installed. It is locked into an agreement between us and Microsoft. ”

Naturally It does not mean that there is no no way to install another one on affected Appliances. Something like that but it requires enough additional tools, knowledge and skills που he could not have yet a experienced programmer.

BaronHK has already discussed issue with more details on a thread in Lenovo forum. Lenovo responded very quickly and locked the publication, but when the news began to spread it opened it again.

If you change your mind again and cancel the publication (why not) you can find the cached version from here.

Update: As he said Cassim Ketfi, it is not Microsoft that prevents the installation of other OSs. The issue has to do with Lenovo's RAID storage configuration not yet supported by Linux.

A Lenovo representative said to Tech Republic that the company does not deliberately block Linux.

To improve performance, the industry is moving towards SSDs and Lenovo is leading this change. Lenovo does not prevent its customers from using other operating systems on its devices, but alternative operating systems should release the appropriate predriving.
