The Australian police issued a warning because there have been many reports of diamovement USB malware via home mailboxes.
The warning was posted on the website of the Victoria Police, by one of the Australian police departments, and warns that if the USBs are turned on "you will fall victim to live streaming as well as other serious issues."
According to the police warning, these attacks have occurred only in the small and quiet town of Pakenham, 56 kilometers south-east of Melbourne with a population just overtaking 30.000.
The scammer or scammers operating in Pakenham instead of using the Internet για την διανομή κακόβουλου λογισμικού, θεώρησαν καλό να μοιράσουν USB drives στα τυφλά μέσα σε γραμματοκιβώτια και να περιμένουν μέχρι κάποιος να συνδέσει στον υπολογιστή του.
A study published in October of 2015 revealed that 17% of users from five US cities would test a USB found on their computers.
In another study in April of 2016 a security researcher inspired by an episode of Mr. Robot on TV left 300 USBs on the streets of the University of Illinois.
The researcher discovered that 98 from USB disappeared and that a 48% of users tested it on its computers.
Here to mention that a USB from a Hong Kong company is also being released, which short-circuits every connected computer.
Να υπενθυμίσουμε ότι υπάρχουν κακόβουλα λογισμικά που δεν ανιχνεύονται από antivirus ή είναι εγκατεστημένα στο firmware του φορητού disk.
