What is Microsoft Managed Desktop?

Ever since Microsoft CEO changed the company has promoted its software as a Service. Initially in the form of Office 365, a subscription suite of Office Office applications and later as a package with Windows called Microsoft 365.

Microsoft 365 is available for business, educational, and business customers only. Both services have in common that they are subscription.

Microsoft Managed Desktop (MMD) is the next logical step in further expanding the company's choice to offer everything "as a service". In particular, it is an option for its customers to use Microsoft 365 with devices rented by Microsoft or its affiliates.

Microsoft calls it a service Microsoft Managed Desktop Rental. Combines in one package, Microsoft 365 Enterprise, and Desktop as a cloud service.

He mentions about it yesterday article, Vassilis Karagounis of Greek origin, general manager of Microsoft: “Our goal with MMD is to deliver a great user experience while keeping devices secure and up-to-date. MMD builds on the power of Microsoft 365, a consistent, lightweight architecture that continues to evolve, to enable our customers to take full advantage of intelligent our security, to protect them from emerging threats.”

Microsoft refers to the rental devices as modern, but does not disclose their specifications. It seems likely that customers can choose between different configurations of these devices, with their requirements. A developer has different requirements than sales or office workers.

Microsoft works with the Dell, HP, DXC, HCL, Computacenter and Accenture/Avanade.

The Microsoft Managed Desktop is currently only available in the United Kingdom and the United States. Microsoft plans to expand its services to Canada, Australia and New Zealand in early 2019 and other geographical areas (which it does not mention) in the second half of 2019. It remains to be seen whether some of these will be eligible. acceptance by smaller businesses or even by home consumers.
