Mozilla: Tor's privacy settings come to Firefox

The Mozilla Foundation appears to be preparing to bring Tor project browser privacy settings to the Firefox web browser to provide better privacy with additional options.firefox tor

For those who are not aware of the incognito program, Tor uses Firefox ESR, which has been modified according to additional privacy and security settings to protect users.

The Mozilla Foundation recognizes these modifications, and plans to incorporate some of them into Firefox inherently. In fact, the company has begun to incorporate some protection features in Firefox, and plans to incorporate others into the future.

Until now, only a few add-ons add additional Firefox privacy features such as the WebRTC IP leak plug-in plug-in when using the browser.

Let's look at three Tor options already added to Firefox 50. Firefox 50 is available in the Nightly development channel. But this means that until the final 50 of Firefox these improvements may be deferred to be added in a later version.

The first patch blocks the enumeration of and mimeTypes. Websites can retrieve this information from the browser, and use it for fingerprinting. With the patch activated, Firefox does not return any information to the sites.
The second patch works in a similar way. Firefox returns 0 for screen.orientation.angle and "landscape-primary" in screen.orientation.type when websites or apps request this information.
The third and final patch removes the "Open with" option in the download dialog.

Tor privacy settings are not enabled by default for the Firefox audience. Let's see how:

As of Firefox version 41, the feature is available .resistFingerprinting, which is a central option of the Tor browser.

The following instructions are for Firefox 50 Nightly.

Type about: config in the Firefox address bar.
Confirm you will be careful not to lose the warranty :).
The privacy.resistFingerprinting preference does not exist by default.
Turn right in the main area, and select New > Boolean from the context menu.
Name the new privacy.resistFingerprinting option.
Set its value to True to turn it on.

To block the "Open with" option when downloading :

While you're still about about: config, search for browser.download.forbid_open_with
Double-click on it and set the value to true and enable it.

Please note that every browser security add-on is welcome. Features will not be turned on by default, but there will be more protection options for those who want it.
