Mylar New approach to data security

What is the Mylar Platform?  For almost all Internet users, the risks of personal data miscommunication have always been known. However, until recently, the dangers came from some obscure people hackers, recent revelations have highlighted the danger represented by tapping with the stamp of security services.

The need for increased personal data security has led MIT researchers to develop a new platform that will allow for the creation of secure websites, services and applications.

It is the Mylar platform, which, according to a MIT Technology Review, offers encryption services that are activated on the user's computer before the data reaches the server.

The platform Mylar it is the result of cooperation ς ερευνητών του MIT με το Meteor Development Group. Στην ουσία πρόκειται για επανασχεδιασμό της αρχιτεκτονικής των web εφαρμογών ώστε να προσφέρεται μεγαλύτερη data against malicious attacks.

User data is subject to the encryption process before being sent to the provider's server, they arrive at the server encrypted, and decryption occurs only when the data reaches another computer. That is, everything created by the Mylar platform is kept encrypted as long as it remains on the server.

In addition, decryption of the data is done only by using the appropriate password, and if there is a need to share the data to many users, encryption keys are provided via Mylar. In fact, these keys can also be useful if a user loses their passwords and is in danger of permanently losing their data.

According to the MIT researchers, users do not notice any difference in the way they work, moreover if data is requested by a government agency, the server is not able to deliver decrypted . Although the overall concept is not new, Mylar's originators promise that it is a useful tool that could be used on a massive scale.

The platform is currently being tested by a group of patients who through a Mylar website exchange medical information with their doctors. Meanwhile, MIT researchers have also created a test internal chat that combines the ability to share photos and a calendar application.
