A pioneering nanotechnology coating technique, which makes the smartphones to be applied, has been presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona by P2i.

According to CNET, this technique (Dunkable) is the same as that used in specially treated "hydrophobic" clothes. It is noted that F2i is the company behind the Motorola's Droid Waterproof Droid.

This particular technique has the advantage that it can cover all its parts που έχουν πρόβλημα με το νερό – συμπεριλαμβανομένων των κυκλωμάτων που βρίσκονται στο εσωτερικό του. Το βασικό της πλεονέκτημα είναι ότι μπορεί να εφαρμοστεί σε υπάρχοντα, «συμβατικά» τηλέφωνα, χωρίς επιπτώσεις στην  εμφάνισή τους.

Ωστόσο, όπως δήλωσε η Νατάσα Χόσκινς, marketing manager της P2i στο TechHive, οι χρήστες δεν θα έχουν τη δυνατότητα να «παραγγείλουν» οι ίδιοι μία τέτοιου είδους επικάλυψη για το κινητό τους, καθώς η εταιρεία συνεργάζεται απευθείας με κατασκευαστές με στόχο την «εισ» του εν λόγω στρώματος s in devices during their manufacture. The release of the first devices with the P2i coating on the market is expected in 2014.
