Full match between US Democrats and Republicans, who for the first time agree to something. The issue was the NSA mass surveillance.
The American Parliament of Representatives today approved the USA Freedom Act, a bill that would ban the NSA to collect uncontrollable phone datadata.
The new law will allow only targeted approaches from the National Security Service.
The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the bill, with 338 pro and 88 according to TNW.
The timing appears to be important, as paragraph 215 of the Act Patriot (the legal basis the NSA uses to justify data collection) is set to expire on June 1st.
The bill will now have to pass through the Senate, which is expected to vote on 22 in May.
Major technology companies such as Google have already expressed their support for the new US Freedom Act.
Too good to be true? Time will tell…
