A cyber attack on one of Norway's largest media companies has shut down the press. Amedia, Norway's largest news publisher, announced on Tuesday that several of its servers had shut down due to a "serious" cyber attack.
The attack prevented the company from printing Wednesday's newspapers and the presses will continue to operate until the issue is resolved, said Amedia executive vice president Pål Nedregotten. The hack also affects the company's advertising and subscription systems, preventing advertisers from buying new ads and subscribers ordering or canceling subscriptions.
The company Reported that at this time he does not know if personal information has been leaked. The subscription system affected by the attack contains names, addresses, phone numbers and customer subscription history, but data such as passwords, read history and financial information are not affected, the company said.
Amedia publishes more than 90 newspapers and magazines targeting more than 2,5 million Norwegians, according to the company's website.
"We are in the process of getting an overview of the situation, but we do not yet know what happened and the exact damage. "We have already implemented measures to reduce the damage and restore normal operation as soon as possible," said Executive Vice President Pål Nedregotten on the company's website.
