A federal judge ruled today that a program US Homeland Security surveillance that collects phone datadata from US citizens is unconstitutional. It is the first official condemnation of the NSA's spying activities.
In lawsuits brought against her governments by activist Larry Klayman, the US District Judge Richard Leon issued a preliminary injunction restraining the actions of the NSA (collectionafterdata) to Klayman's Verizon account. However, the decision can be appealed by the NSA.
The decision also stated that the government should destroy any Klayman telephone metadata collected through NSA's telephone surveillance program.
