A federal judge ruled today that a program US Homeland Security surveillance that collects phone datadata from US citizens is unconstitutional. It is the first official condemnation of the NSA's spying activities.
In lawsuits filed against the government by activist Larry Klayman, the US District Judge Richard Leon issued a preliminary injunction to block the NSA's (metadata collection) actions in account which Klayman has at Verizon. However, the decision can be appealed by the NSA.
The ruling also said the government must destroy any Klayman phone metadata collected through the preletterof telephone surveillance by the NSA.
