The mystery is solved. The NSA said bad weather was to blame downtime of pfor almost two days.
The shadow intelligence service said Wednesday afternoon that it had a "technology issue" related to Monday's storm in the area of the agency's headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland. The problems with the NSA website were first observed at the same time on Monday.
Kevin Beaumont, a security technician, said on Twitter that the NSA's external services - including its website and other non-internal Web services - went offline, although it is suspected that the agency itself "pulled the plug."
However, looking at Monday weather, there were storms and intense rainfall in the Fort Meade area in Maryland, where the NSA headquarters are located.
The moment of time, however, allows various correlations….
A day earlier, a group hacking believed to be linked to the NSA, known as the Equation Group, became the target of hackers, resulting in the leak of dozens of exploits used to attack various targets and systems. Another group, calling itself the Shadow Brokers, obtained the exploits and began auctioning them off with the goal of selling the tools to the highest bidder.
Given her infringement, many speculated that the NSA website was down for some "internal review."
