The Electronic Crime Prosecutor's Office conducted a thorough digital and online social networking survey and identified a social networking user who maintained a profile through which he provided OPAP predictions for a fee.
In particular, the actor, through the above profile, attracted other users of the social networking website, promising to offer and offer for a fee prognostication of the outcome of football matches, either from the OPAP betting slip or out of a betting slip.
The actor demanded the payment of the money, mainly through prepaid card codes, which he then used himself on online gambling.
As part of the preliminary examination, a thorough digital search and analysis of electronic traces and digital data and in combination with correspondence carried out with the involved bodies it emerged that the management of the aforementioned page was done by a 33-year-old citizen.
In an investigation carried out on 29-01-2016 at his home, his illegal activity was identified, while a portable electronic device was found and confiscated computers, a bank deposit book, a notebook with numerous notes related to his criminal activity, as well as a large number of prepaid card codes.
The seized laptop will be sent to the Criminal Investigation Department for laboratory tests, while the total financial damage from the activity of the 33-year-old, is estimated at tens of thousands of euros.
The case file of the regular procedure will be submitted to the relevant Prosecutor's Office and its possible involvement in other similar acts.
