Not that Opera Software's installer didn't support portable installation of the Opera browser before. The process was hidden under a few options, but it was there. All you had to do was click on the options button on the first page of the installer to start the process.
Then you should change the installation path to its folder choices, and install the application with the variable from “all users on this computer” to “stand-alone installation (USB)” checked.
The new Opera Portable Installer offers two advantages over Opera's built-in installation option as a portable browser.
First, Opera browser automatically installs itself as a portable browser with no settings.
The second advantage is that the installer detects them Appliances USB storage automatically. The installer adjusts the installation path for the portable version of Opera automatically when it detects a connected USB storage device.
Of course you can choose a custom installation path yourself if you want to run the application on a USB device.
Opera Portable Installer options are identical to those provided by the "real" installer. You can change the browser language and disable data import from a default browser, as well as sharing usage statistics with Opera.
Opera Portable Installer is only available in the Developer version of the application. According to the company, it is a new "updated version of Opera Network Installer".
It's unclear whether the company is releasing the portable version to other channels, or whether it will leave it for the developer channel only.
