In a post on Opera's blog, the company states that it has been breached server using Opera Sync earlier this week.
The company reports that an unknown attacker has been able to access Opera Sync systems and is afraid that some user data has been exposed. So he started restoring all passwords.
The incident is of major importance due to the nature of the data stored in the system. If an attacker accesses a user's account, he will be able to access all of the victim's names and passwords for other services, his browsing history, bookmarks, and more.
If the user allowed Opera Sync to sync his passwords to other devices, this means that all of his passwords are available on Opera servers.
The company stated that all passwords for Opera Sync are hashed and salted, and the stored passwords from each user's accounts are encrypted.
