Oracle released an important new yesterday version of the freeware VirtualBox for all supported 64-bit operating systems.
VirtualBox 6.0.0 is only available for the 64-bit versions of the Windows, OS X, Linux and Solaris. The last version of VirtualBox that supports 32-bit hosts is version 5.2, which will be supported until July 2020. Downloads are available from the official VirtualBox website.
Note that the size of the program installationVirtualBox for Windows has almost doubled and from about 100 Megabytes in previous versions now in version 6.0.0 it has reached 200 Megabytes. However, the management process uses the same amount of RAM when running.
VirtualBox 6.0.0 can also be installed on existing installations. The new version will automatically read the existing virtual machines. Installed extensions will also need to be updated. The changelog of VirtualBox 6.0.0 highlights several major changes to the new release as well as improvements, fixes and changes.
The new version of virtual computer software comes with a slightly altered look. Some icons have been moved or removed, but the layout remains the same for the most part.
Another major addition is a new file manager that gives users control over the guest file system. Includes options for copy files between the host system and the virtual machine.
Other important new features are better 3D graphics support on Windows, VMSVGA 3D graphics emulation on Linux and Solaris, and alternatives Hyper-V options on Windows computers.
