Huawei in partnership with Leica today unveiled its two new high-end devices at an event in London. The F9 and F9 Plus devices are here.
The new P9 smartphone features a full HD 5,2 inch screen, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, 3000mAh battery and an Octa-core processor with 2.5GHz and 1.8GHz Kirin 955 chips.
The version to be released in Asia will have dual-SIM, while the European model will only have one SIM card slot. There is also a P9 model in 128GB variant, but it will not appear in Europe.
The P9 Plus features 4GB RAM, a larger screen in full HD 5,5 inch, 64GB or 128GB disc capacity, and a larger 3,400mAh battery.
Both devices support microSD cards thus adding more space for storing photos, video, apps or anything else you want.
The devices have an aluminum chassis like P8 but use C type USB ports for connecting to other devices and charging.
Of course, the most notable feature of the devices is the camera, or so to speak better the cameras.
Instead of using a single sensor like most smartphones, the company's collaboration with Leica gives us a dual 12-megapixel sensor (one regular RGB, and one monochrome). The company says that the quality of the photos (color and black and white) will be superior.
The collaboration with Leica could bring a camera with redesigned UI, but much of Huawei's remaining EMUI looks unchanged with a quick look.
One thing you won't find on device, is a real Leica camera. While the company reportedly helped with the lens expertise, Huawei built the device, which will likely disappoint some readers.
Of course we can not yet talk about the performance of the dual camera. We are just mentioning the fact that seems paradoxical. Huawei & Leica partnership for a device without a Leica camera.
