In an interview with Motherboard, Impact Team, the hacking group that breached the website Ashley Madison revealed that it still has 300GB of unreleased data.
The hack on Ashley Madison was announced in July, and the team said it would not release the data they had committed if the site was closed.
This obviously did not happen, and hackers originally released 10GB data with customer site information, and later 20GB containing internal emails and source code of the site.
In response to questions from the editor of Motherboard, the hackers revealed that Ashley Madison had not taken action security, και ότι οι διαχειριστές ήταν τόσο ανόητοι που χρησιμοποιούσαν σαν κωδικό πρόσβασης του root στους servers τους το: “Pass1234"
This allowed the hackers to gain full control of all the servers, and unmolestedly download all customer data, private talks, photos, credit card information, financial information, website source code, and many other internal data.
To date, 30GB has leaked data and as the group claims there are still 300GBs that will only leak if Avid Life Media does not close the Ashley Madison website.
The motivation of hackers does not seem to be economical, and they may be considered to be burglars, not blacksmiths for financial gain.
