Piriform, its developer CCleaner after widespread backlash, it pulled back the latest version of the app. With version 5.45 it was functionally impossible to avoid the collection data.
Such as we mentioned yesterday, version 5.45 of CCleaner sent anonymous system information to Piriform, and users of the application could not disable this feature, as even after disabling the application continued to send data.
Of course, the behavior provoked reactions last week and so Piriform, (a subsidiary of Avast) took back the latest version of CCleaner at the weekend.
The forum of the application states:
We are currently working to separate cleanup functions from analytics aggregation and offer more control options to CCleaner users to remember after a reboot. We also create a newsletter, which will describe the data we collect, for what purposes and how it is processed.
Today atslowσαμε την έκδοση v5.45 και επαναφέραμε την έκδοση v5.44 σαν κύριο download of CCleaner while we work on a new version with several key improvements.
It is a step for sure, to remember the program settings of users after closing the application!
Needless to say, the next version of CCleaner should completely remove these dark patterns and make it clear to users why it collects and what it does with their data.
Of course we still do not recommend using CCleaner regardless of the company promises.
