The Greek Police's Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate informs citizens about the malware in our country "Crypto-Wall».
This software, which is a development of the known "Cryptolocker" malware, is one of Crypto-Malware's digital threats and can affect all versions of the operating system.
In particular, malware spreads – it spreads when we visit unsafe or infected websites, appearing as legitimate information popular applications. However, in most cases, 'CryptoWall' spreads through infected emails.
More specifically, after installation in the operating system, this malware, using an advanced encryption system, encrypts - locks all digital files and data (various types of files, indicatively: * .doc, * .docx, * .xls, * .ppt, * .psd, * .pdf, * .eps, * .ai, * .cdr, * .jpg, etc.) that are stored on the computer of the infected user, while to unlock their files they must be paid (ransom), otherwise they are inaccessible to their user.
Payment is made via an anonymous browser using the bitcoin (BTC) digital currency, then a message displayed to the user, with instructions and instructions for payment.
Internet users are being asked not to pay the money they are asked to discourage such illegal practices as well as to prevent the spread of the phenomenon, and they should be very careful and take digital protection and security measures to prevent malicious attack software.
Specifically:
-
citizens who receive emails from unknown senders or unknown sources are requested not to open the links and not download the attachments contained therein for which they are not sure about the sender and the contents of the attachment file. In addition, users must be extremely suspicious of the emails that sender seems to be a service or company.
-
it is recommended that the URLs be typed in the browser rather than using hyperlinks,
-
to use genuine software programs and to update them regularly, and there must always be an updated protection program (antivirus) on the PC.
-
to check and keep up-to-date the version of their operating system,
