Priv8 add sandboxed tabs to Firefox

While the institution tries to integrate the E10S multi-process architecture into the Firefox which is a precondition for filtering the browser, add-ons developers seem to have just overtaken them.

priv8 Firefox

The new add-on of Firefox, Priv8 adds sandboxed tabs to your browser using the Firefox OS security model. It allows you to run tabs in a sandbox that separates the data from the rest of the browser and the other tabs. Please note that the add-on has been released as a PoC at this time.

The add-on works by creating sandboxes and delegating σε αυτά. Το sandbox λειτουργεί αυτόματα, και δεν εισάγει νέα χαρακτηριστικά στο πρόγραμμα περιήγησης.

The first thing to do after installing the Priv8 add-on is to create one or more sandboxes. This is done by clicking on the extension icon on your browser's main toolbar.

Click to create a new sandbox, and add a name and a color. Once the sandbox is created, add the URL you want to connect to.

An interesting option is that you can create many sandboxes using the same address. Sandboxes do not share data such as cookies, and can be used to access as many accounts as you want on the same website without any problems.

If you have Gmail accounts, you can sign in to both and use them at the same time (although this can also be done without the add-on if you know how).

You can tell the sandboxes by their color. They are visible in the active when you hover your mouse cursor over any sandboxed inactive tab.

Priv8 is a very interesting add-on that highlights how powerful Firefox APIs are to develop add-ons. It is, of course, too early to say whether the add-on protects or secures the browser and its data, but since it separates the data is on the right track.
