Project Sidekick and HoloLens are ready to go intergalactic. In partnership with NASA, Microsoft is sending some devices to the International Space Station (ISS). The argument is called Project Sidekick, and it will start by the end of 2015.
At the moment, when an astronaut has completed a job, he takes notes and receives new instructions from NASA by voice only.
Project Sidekick will use HoloLens to create augmented reality "spaces" facilitating communication and more.
So astronauts will be able to get detailed instructions and see exactly what needs to be done in the space they will have to work on.
Project Sidekick will initially have two functions.
The Remote Expert Mode that Skype will use to make real-time feedback will allow NASA to see what the astronaut is seeing, and the Operation Procedure using holograms that the crew can interact with.
Η NASA αναφέρει ότι το Project Sidekick “θα χρησιμοποιηθεί και θα αξιολογηθεί κατά τη διάρκεια επιχειρήσεων σε ακραίο περιβάλλον της (NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations ή NEEMO), μια εκστρατεία που θα ξεκινήσει στις 21 Ιούλη, από μια team astronauts and technicians living on the underwater research station Aquarius. The exercise will last two weeks."
NASA did not say when it would arrive that HoloLens would reach the ISS.
