Quixey: As more and more Internet users use mobile devices, the use of apps is skyrocketing, as there are too many who prefer access on the Internet through more "limited", but more practical channels/"packages", which are not open to links or "visible" to search engines.
According to an MIT publication Technology Review, η εταιρεία Quixey φιλοδοξεί να το αλλάξει αυτό, και προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση αξιοποιεί 150 εργαζομένους και χρηματοδότηση ύψους 74 εκατ. δολαρίων, με στόχο την ανάπτυξη μίας μηχανής αναζήτησης η οποία μπορεί να «κοιτάξει» μέσα σε applications.
Quixey's goal is to add a search box to the user's phone that will be able to accept searches such as "best Chinese restaurants in such-and-such city" or "taxi to home» and display a list of results which allow the user to go directly to the relevant screen or function within an application.
According to the MIT Technology Review (which looked at a prototype intended for release later this year), initially the search engine focuses on places where one can eat and drink. When a specific type of cuisine is requested, the restaurants with the highest score are listed, based on reviews from applications such as Yelp and Urbanspoon. Also, links to the OpenTable application are provided for the user to see the availability of tables and to make a reservation. It is worth noting that Quixey can provide search results from applications not installed on the device: pressing one of them is followed by installing it.
According to Liro Sapira, co-founder and CTO of the company, the way people today interact with applications is problematic as "it makes no sense" to navigate through an icon set of icons to find the application needs and learn how to move on to it. "A search bar is the best way to use third-party applications, and Quixey's vision is to place this bar on each device."
