More powerful processor and more μνήμη offers the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, the new version of the affordable Raspberry Pi computer.
According to a BBC report, the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B is about six times more powerful than the previous version of the computer (Model B +). However, it will probably need this power, as it faces competition from other similar machines, such as the Arduino, Intel Galileo, Gizmo 2, BeagleBone Black and Hummingboard.
The main differences with the previous version are as follows: the CPU is now quad core rather than single core, allowing either more power or less power consumption (depending on requirements). Also, the Cortex A7 processor "runs" now at 800MHz instead of 700MHz, while there is a GB RAM.
In the same spirit as its predecessors, its owners should "add" their own keyboard, a MicroSD card containing operating system and screen.
As the creator, Embend Appeal, told the BBC, it is now a "real" PC - a computer that can do most of what it would do with a regular PC, like surfing the Internet, seeing videos , to play games, but also to learn programming: the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B bring with him the necessarytools» that young children need to take their first steps into the world of programming. Otherwise, Upton points out, the rest has remained the same.
The computer can run a variety of Linux-based systems, but its creators have promised to be able to support its next operating system Microsoft. The cost is only 35 dollars.
