Rocky Linux is a community enterprise operating system designed to be 100% compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
The first stable version of the project, Rocky Linux 8.4, was released today.
The developers report:
"We are pleased to announce the general availability of Rocky Linux 8.4 (Green Obsidian). Rocky Linux is a community enterprise operating system designed to be 100% bug-for-bug compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4. Since this is the first version of Rocky Linux, the following release notes only reflect changes in functionality between point releases. "

The community has created the migrate2rocky tool to help convert Rocky Linux 8.4 from other Enterprise Linux systems. This tool has been tested and is working, however its use is at your own risk. Community members have been able to convert Rocky Linux systems from: Alma Linux (8.4), CentOS Linux (8.4), Red Hat Enterprise Linux (8.4), and Oracle Linux (8.4).
