NASA was released a game that can be played by the program browsing intended to generate interest in the Nancy Grace Roman Telescope.
Entitled The Roman Space Observer Game, NALA Comm's retro arcade game probably isn't an accurate simulation of what it's like to usesof NASA's sensitive scientific equipment.
However, it is quite fun.
"You have been given observation time on the Nancy Grace Roman Telescope," says the home screen, after choosing between English or Spanish.
"You only have one minute to catch as many astrophysical objects and phenomena as possible" or "You only have one minute to catch as many astrophysical objects and phenomena as possible".
Similar to the classic Atari, celestial objects fly on the screen at different speeds. However, instead of avoiding or shooting them, you should use the arrow keys to chase objects. Once you place the Roman Space Observer on an object, you must quickly press the "space" key to capture them and collect points.
The most common objects are the orange and pink spirals, which denote galaxies and are worth seven points each. Other targets include the yellow Webb Hexagonal Telescope (75 degrees), white starburst supernovae (15 degrees), blue-ringed exoplanets (10 degrees), green exoplanets (25 degrees) black dark matter (40 points) and black holes (50 points).
The Roman Space Observer Game is a pretty enjoyable little game and definitely better than some other video game promotion companies.
