EU antitrust regulators are asking them users and Microsoft's competitors whether Bing must comply with strict new technology rules, and whether Apple's iMessage service should also comply; according to a publication by Reuters:
The European Commission launched investigations in September to assess whether Bing, Edge and Microsoft's Microsoft Advertising division as well as Apple's iMessage should be subject to the Digital Marketing Act (DMA).
The investigations began when the two companies challenged the EU competition regulator designating these services as core platform services under the DMA (from Digital Markets Act).
DMA requires Microsoft, Apple, Google, the Amazon, Meta Platforms, ByteDance and Alphabet to allow applications third parties or app stores on their platforms and make it easier for users to switch from their default apps to others from competing companies, among other obligations.
The Commission released questionnaires earlier this month asking competitors and users to rate the importance of Microsoft's three services and Apple's iMessage against competing services.
Of course no one knows what will happen and of course no one can say what will be played under the table, as all the companies we mentioned above will not put the interest of the end user as a priority.
