Samsung unveiled at CES 2019 the first 4-inch 15,6K OLED display, ideal for laptop and is considered the most likely model to be used by HP and Dell.
We look forward to seeing the first OLED laptop and the company at CES 2019 Samsung presented an OLED 4 screen with a diagonal of 15,6 inches. The displays they will offer an HDR (High Dynamic Range), excellent color reproduction and high external visibility, according to statements from Samsung Display's marketing director Yoon Jae-nam.
By technology OLED each pixel has its own “light”, so you have a true black when they are off. Samsung points out that its panels meet VESA's DisplayHDR True Black specification. It also mentions that OLED panels tend to have better color accuracy than LCD, and can easily handle HDR. Brightness levels peak at 600 nits, enough to meet the demanding DisplayHDR 600 certification, and the screen covers 100% of the range DCI-P3 with 34 million colors. It's also thinner, lighter and uses less power compared to an LCD screen.
OLEDs are not the perfect product as they have their problems too. Samsung will start manufacturing the displays in mid-February 2019, but hasn't said which handset makers computers they will use them. However, 4K OLED displays will likely be worn on Dell's XPS 15, Alienware m15, and G 15 machines that will be released in March, as well as HP's Specter x360 OLED 2-in-1 machine that will be released in July.
