As early as April 2015, developers had access to the SDK of the next Gear device. This resulted in over a thousand apps being available to Samsung Gear S2 users at launch. This is a procase to the already five thousand applications available to users of the Gear series.
The Samsung Gear S2 SDK offers the following benefits:
• Enhanced standalone features: Developers can create standalone applications with network, call, and location APIs, with the ability to connect to 3G networks, without the need for smartphone use.
• Web and Native apps: Developers can create Web and Native apps with the new SDK. Through Tizen Native APIs they are able to create fast, lightweight and easy-to-use applications with EFL (Enlightment Foundation Libraries).
• Android support: The new SDK supports Android-powered phones *, including Samsung devices, but not by way of limitation.
The following apps will be available for Samsung Gear S2:
• Update for news and news: by rotating the interactive crown or by tapping the Gear S2 screen, you can choose among your favorite sports teams and learn news about matches through the ESPN Gear S2 application, or gain access to match statistics with ESPN Watch Face. You can read the news, along with photographic material, through CNN implementation, and all the important news from the business world through Bloomberg Business Watch Face and Bloomberg Business Gear S2. Of course, you can learn about all Twitter trends through Twitter Trends Watch Face.

Use the Yelp for Gear app to get information about nearby restaurants and shops, right from your wrist. Find out the details for the next one taxifor you, such as flight times, at a glance in the TripCase app for Gear S2.

In addition, with Alipay's payment feature, you can trade in restaurants and shops without having to cash or your smartphone.
• Monitor your physical state: With the Nike + Running for Gear S2, you can track your travel distances, pace and time with just a quick look at your device. Users with Bluetooth speakers can listen to their favorite music directly from their smartwatch.
