The situation that created this hack was terrible. In 23 May, Qatar news agency reported that Qatar Emir, Sheikh Tamin Al Thani, said that Iran was an Islamic force that can not be ignored. Given the tensions in the region, this comment has caused a variety of reactions in nearby countries.
Το πρόβλημα βέβαια ήταν ότι ο Εμίρης δεν είχε αναφέρει τίποτα τέτοιο και οι πληροφορίες είχαν "φυτευτεί" από τους hackers, οι οποίοι φαίνεται να πήγαν και ένα βήμα παρακάτω αφού με hack στο Twitter του σταθμού, δημοσίευσαν περισσότερες ψευδείς δηλώσεις που αποδόθηκαν στον υπουργό Εξωτερικών του Κατάρ.
Το Motherboard παραθέτει μια πηγή εξοικειωμένη με τον hack, ο οποίος δήλωσε ότι το πρακτορείο ειδήσεων θα μπορούσε να "it always belongs to script kiddies" δεδομένου ότι ουσιαστικά δεν υπήρχε ασφάλεια.
Attackers allegedly gained control over the entire server, content management system and all accounts of social media.
The government's communications office said the statements were false but the damage has been. Qatar's relationship with neighboring countries is now stronger than ever. Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt withdrew their ambassadors, and other countries are considering following suit.
Flights from these countries to Qatar have been blocked.
