SDP.81: What is Einstein's Ring

Einstein Ring: The galaxy SDP.81 is located about 12 billion light-years from Earth. It is known as a "starburst" galaxy, for the extremely high rates of star birth that have been observed. Stellar explosions create plenty making it very easy to see the galaxies taking place.SDP-81 SDP.81 Einstein

Galactic explosions can occur in any galaxy, but those seen in SDP.81 are specific. From Earth we can see SDP.81 as a complete ring in the depths of space with the Atacama Large Millimeter / Submillimeter Array (ALMA) telescope at the highest ever galaxy image we have ever had. The ALMA telescope consists of 66 radio telescopes located in the Chilean Atacama desert.

Ring effect occurs because the distance between SDP.81 and Earth is about four billion light-years, and it is big enough to bend the light that comes with such precision that SDP.81 looks almost like a perfect circle. It is a rare case of a gravitational lens, a phenomenon that had been reported Einstein when it announced General Relativity.

The distorted image of SDP.81 is caused by the gravity of another galaxy or some other large mass object that by its gravity substantially deforms the space and thus the light rays follow a curved path. The phenomenon known as Einstein's Ring.

The light we see from the galaxy dates back almost to the beginning of the universe, which is estimated to be about 13.820.000.000 years ago.

“The gravitational focus ται στην αστρονομία για τη μελέτη της πολύ μακρινών αντικειμένων, του πρώιμου Σύμπαντος επειδή δίνει ακόμη καλύτερα αποτελέσματα στα τηλεσκόπια μας, δήλωσε η Ελληνίδα αναπληρώτρια διευθύντρια του προγράμματος ALMA, Κατερίνα Βλαχάκη ή Vlahakis according to CNN.

"With the amazing level of detail in these new ALMA images, astronomers will now be able to reassemble the information contained in the distorted image we see as a ring and produce a of the real picture of the distant galaxy.”
