NSA leaker Edward Snowden appeared today via Google Hangout at South by Southwest Interactive Festival Cosa Sarà in Austin, Texas and stated that he has no regrets about what he did and that if he could do it over again, he would.
The former government contractor whose leak of thousands of classified government documents has sparked a global debate over Internet privacynetwork, εμφανίστηκε σε μια screen which pointed to Article 1 of the US Constitution.
Speaking to ACLU's Christopher Soghoian, Snowden said:
"I took an oath to uphold and defend the US Constitution, and I saw that it had been violated on a massive scale," he said, adding that he did not regret what he had done.
Snowden also spoke about the importance of encryption software for protecting private communications, and he spoke of the need for technicians in leading technology companies to lead this effort.
"I think we have made really great progress," he said from an unknown location in Russia. To speak at the conference, he used seven proxies to prevent him from being spotted by the US government.
He also said two former and current NSA executives ruined US national security, making the country more vulnerable to cyber attacks.
