Microsoft has released a preview of Skype for Desktops that doesn't appear to be the same as the Universal version Windows Platform for Windows 10 Skype.
This is the updated Skype app for Desktops running on Windows 7And Windows 8.X. (Those who want to try this preview on Windows 10 can do so by choosing from mode compatibility an older version of Windows. This is the only way supported in Windows 10.)
Microsoft has added some of the features of the new Skype Mobile app to this Surface work with this preview.
The new app, according to the company, "puts chat front and center," adding sharing screenand photos in real time. It brings the ability for @messages, message reactions and a new notification panel. Makes a new chat media gallery available for finding shared content such as links, documents, and media. And it adds better customization to group calls.
The Skype Desktop Preview application does not yet support translation calls, does not allow users to send video messages, put their calls on hold, or merge incoming calls with existing calls. The FAQ page however indicates that these features will come later.
The announcement made at company blog on August 17, announces the new preview of Skype Desktop, and reports that developers are waiting for testers feedback on the new application.
Microsoft said earlier this year that the company is slowly planning to bring the updated Skype Client to iOS, Windows, Mac, Linux, the Internet and the Xbox.
