Last Monday, pilot André Borschberg took off from Nagoya, Japan and after 120 flight hours managed to land today in Hawaii on the first and largest flight made with the Solar Impulse Solar Aircraft.
Breaking the previous flight record of 76 hours held by American Steve Fosset from 2006, André showed the world what is really possible with today's solar technology.
André Borschberg had to land at Kalaeloa Airport in Hawaii after four days and twenty minutes. Flooded 8.221 kilometers and used about 31% of its batteries.
The pilot spent 120 hours of continuous flight, tethered to a toilet seat, bed and exercise machine with little or no sleep. However, Borschberg had been trained in meditation and hypnosis to help him stay focused on the most demanding journey in his life.
It really is a pioneering feat for solar planes energy.
The plane finally landed with better safety at Kalaeloa airport at 07.00 am. (Athens time). André Borschberg is safe and sound, while Prince Albert of Monaco was present at the landing to congratulate him on the new record.
You can watch the landing as well as the development of the flight on the official websiteσελίδα of Solar Impulse.
