Η company online ticket sales, StubHub, has tried to reassure its customers that their accounts are safe, following the discovery of an international fraud that exploited more than 1.600 accounts in StubHub.
The eBay company has told its customers on Twitter and Facebook that their accounts are safe and that their technical and financial systems are not violated.
"Your accounts are secure and there have been no intrusions into our technical or financial systems," the company said in the Facebook post. “A year ago, less than 0.006 percent of our customers' accounts were accessed by cybercriminals who had their hands on credentials and passwords access of customers through data breaches that occurred at other businesses.
They participated in the fraud which started last year two Russian nationals, who through compromised accounts purchased up to 3.500 tickets using pre-existing payment details. They then sent the tickets to two people in Manhattan and New Jersey, who resold them. In this way they managed to obtain an estimated 1.5 million dollars.
For six of the cyber criminals involved in the fraud, warrants have been issued in New York by the Manhattan Prosecutor, Cyrus Vance Jr., who refers them to a felony trial.
"The accused have been referred to trial on felony charges, such as money laundering, conspiracy to commit theft, and criminal possession of theft."
