The Greek postal service provider ACS GNU, a member of the Quest Group, announced the launch of the research proletterof the ACS SKYPACK airlift with small flying unmanned vehicles, exploring the conditions and technologies that will allow the delivery of medicines and other sensitive items of large prioritys in hard-to-reach areas (mountains or small islands), in short times.
According to a relevant announcement, with the existing innovative technology, it is possible to deliver objects of a certain weight/volume (up to about two kilograms) at a distance of up to a few kilometers (with flights and stops for charging/ supply of aerial vehicles through special stations, according to ration of the movement of calls to mobile telephony), without requiring the existence of a land station. This technology is in an evolutionary stage, is being improved and is expected to carry greater weight and greater distances in the future.
Under this program, the items to be transported will be placed in special packages marked ACS SKYPACK, which will then be transported by small flying unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to their final destination. It is noted that, for the use of the new technology, a special framework of technical safety specifications and licensing by the Greek Authorities within the EU is required, which is not yet available. The company closely monitors developments in this area, adapting its program to evolving prospects.
