Several of the most famous films of the year, including recent releases such as Concussion, Creed, Joy, are already available for download on various pirate sites.

We read in the nfo accompanying the recent Spotlight movie, which leaked during the night of Thursday 24 December 2015:
DVDScreener 9 of 40
will do them all one after another, 9th hot title (We'll do it all one after the other, 9's hot title)

According to a survey by the site NZBIndex.nl. in the (the Usenet it's kind of like a giant message board, but with the ability to share easily and quickly .) the movies shared by the group Hive-CM8 are all high quality DVD screeners, which are copies of movies sent to people like journalists and other film industry professionals for evaluation purposes.

Given the existence of many pirate channels and ways to illegally watch a movie (such as BitTorrent sites, storage sites such as , ιδιωτικά IRC κανάλια, το προαναφερθέν Usenet, τα ιδιωτικά sites-ftps της Scene κλπ), δεν υπάρχει κανένας πραγματικός τρόπος για να προσδιοριστεί με ακρίβεια πόσες φορές μια ταινία έχει κατέβει παράνομα, αλλά μία αντι-πειρατική εταιρεία που ονομάζεται Excipio εκτιμά ότι την ταινία The Hateful Eight την έχουν κατεβάσει over 1,3 million times within the first 24 hours of its availability.

The scene group Hive-CM8, whose motto seems to be "get it right the first time", has been around for at least five years and has illegally distributed films such as The Social Network, The , 12 Years a Slave, and Interstellar.
