According to Edward Snowden, those who care for their privacy should stay away from popular Internet services such as Dropbox, Facebook and Google.
Snowden conducted a gave a remote interview today at New Yorker Festival, where they were asked for advice on what we can do to protect our privacy.
As a first step, he said reforms needed by politicians.
He added that at the individual level, people should look for encrypted tools and stop using services that are "hostile to privacy."
For one thing, he said you should "get rid of Dropbox" because it does not support encryption, and should consider alternatives such as SpiderOak. In accordance with Techcrunch When Snowden made similar comments in the summer, Dropbox said that protecting users' information was a "top priority" for them.)
The snippet for Dropbox is about 1: 04: 55 on the video below.
"We're talking about encryption. We're talking about not using it programs που είναι εχθρικά για τη προστασία της ιδιωτικής ζωής. Για παράδειγμα, το Dropbox Ξεφορτωθείτε το Dropbox, δεν υποστηρίζουν την κρυπτογράφηση, δεν προστατεύει τα ιδιωτικά σας αρχεία. Χρησιμοποιήστε τους ανταγωνιστές του όπως το SpiderOak, που κάνουν ακριβώς τα ίδια, αλλά προστατεύει το content your."
He also said that while Facebook and Google have improved their security, they remain "dangerous services" and that we should avoid them. Somewhat funny of course since he also used Google Hangout for the interview and there was a Google logo above his head. Another tip: Do not send unencrypted text messages, but use services such as RedPhone and Silent Circle.
Earlier in the interview, Snowden rejected claims that increasing iOS encryption would stop efforts monitoringfrom the Authorities. He said that even with this encryption, intelligence agencies and law enforcement in general can still ask companies to give them full access to a suspect's phone. This access will of course also include the key for the encrypted ones data.
Below is the video of the interview. The privacy and Internet privacy talks start about 58: 30.
