About 300 million active users per month announced it has Instagram, showing 50% increase in just nine months, and in February 2013 had only 100 million users.
Plus, the number of active Instagram users has surpassed those of Twitter, which each month amount to about 284 million.
Instagram, which allows its users to share photos and video, acquired in 2012 by Facebook, which has 1,35 billion monthly active users.
According to the "New York Times" and "BBC", over 70% of the users of this social network are located outside the US, while its impressively fast growth, after creation of 2010, mainly due to the fact that video sharing is now the hottest activity among users on social networks.
Twitter is already upgrading its own short video service, called Vine.
Kenneth Sistrom, managing director and co-founder of Instagram, said the network would now begin to verify the accounts of celebrity actors and athletes so that service users are confident that the content they see in an account is authentic.
