Have you ever wondered if the UK's intelligence agency, GCHQ, has been meddling in your life? If so, starting today you can find out, thanks to an online campaign launched by Privacy International (PI). The PI campaign probably aims to make life very difficult for some people...
The service for protection of privacy has created a website where you can provide your personal information (your name, email address, IP address, MAC address etc.) to submit a request to the investigative powers court (IPT).
The IPT oversees security services, and asks them to confirm whether your personal information is included in a huge base of information held by UK security services.
According to Privacy International, the court has a legal obligation to inform you if these details are included in the secret services databases.
The goal seems to be, in general, evidence that GCHQ's dragnet does not only include terrorists who are subject to government espionage.
There are two reservations: one is that with the filing of the PI treatment for you, you should be ready to engage in a lengthy process, and second, even if you are not on a list, deliver yourself your information to security services.
Nevertheless, Privacy International's move will load all relevant and eblueservices, with too much bureaucratic work, indicating that data collection should not be done so sloppily and without any limits.
