The 26-year-old Turk hacker, Onur Kopçak, was sentenced last Sunday to 135 years in prison. The 135 years were added to the 199 years he was already sentenced to. Thus the sentence as a whole reached 334 years.
Kopçak was first arrested in 2013 for a phishing campaign impersonating bank websites, for the subtheft financial data of his victims.
Turkish authorities charged Kopçak with wiretapping fraud ID cardς, απάτη υποκλοπή πρόσβασης, hacking and online forgery, as reported by the Sabah newspaper.
During the same year, following complaints from 43 bank customers, the hacker was sentenced to imprisonment a little less than 200 years (199 years 7 months and 10 days).
The investigation, however, continued, new complaints were filed, triggering a new trial.
The trial was completed yesterday, with the result that another 135 years were added to the original hacker's penalty.
With a total of 334 years in prison, Kopçak now tops the list of hackers with the longest prison sentence by a wide margin. Even Ross Ulbricht, founder of the drug market Silk Road, was sentenced to fewer years (once for life).
However, we must mention that Ross Ulbricht was tried in the United States while Kopçak, from the Turkish regime.
