Bad news for Twitter. The popular social network admitted today that many of its users are bots. What does this mean; Twitter has essentially admitted that there are many automated bot accounts that simply serve to retweet content related to a particular theme, or simply parrot customer service slogans.
In a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Twitter clarified that the total number of bot accounts using service του ανέρχεται στα 23 εκατομμύρια, Ο αριθμός είναι αρκετά υψηλός, καθώς η βάση data of the company contains 271 million users. This equates to an 8,5%. 8,5% on Twitter are not human and are simply regurgitating programmed messages.
As Quartz points out, bot accounts are nothing but spam and let's face it, spam is not that desirable.
The data reported by Twitter were valid until the end of June 2014. Quartz also reports that 7 million (2,5%) of the company's monthly active users access the service through third-party clients.
