"We want to make it even easier for people to find creative and influential people with the help of Twitter, so it makes sense to let more people apply for verification," said Tina Bhatnagar, vice president of service for Twitter users. .
"We hope that opening this application process will help more people find high quality accounts to follow, as well as content creators and influential people connecting with a wider audience."
Typically the mode it is exclusively for celebrities, journalists, politicians etc but the new system could give the verification signal to anyone whose account might be at risk with impersonation. Apart from the sign added by the social network, nothing else changes in the account.
The application process will start today and will be available globally later in the week.
