According to the Tempe police in Arizona, the trick was when the front vehicle turned left in front of the Uber at Don Carlos Drive.
The accident resulted in the Uber (Volvo) vehicle being left standing on its side.
The Tempe police said no one was injured. The self-driven Volvo SUV was a driver but did not seem to be driving.
Uber has reportedly temporarily suspended its self-driving pilot program in Arizona pending investigations into the incident, according to the Reuters and the Associated Press.
