A while ago Canonical announced the release of the sixth LTS (Long Term Support) version of Ubuntu on April 21 and officially presented the new characteristics of the upcoming operating system.
The new Ubuntu LTS 16.04 it is called Xenial Xerus and according to Canonical, it offers to users support for snap packages in desktop and server versions, new secure and powerful app format, LXD 2.0 pure-container hypervisor with OpenStack Mitaka, as well as support for IBM's LinuxONE and System Z platform.
In addition, the operating system Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will be the first of its kind to support CephFS and ZFS filesystems for large-scale cloud storage.
Canonical says it has made great progress with the vision of convergence, bringing the Ubuntu platform closer to the Linux OS that will work on desktop, phones, servers and IoT.
