Canonical is trying to improve Ubuntu and it seems they are doing it successfully. Of course we are still waiting to see the upcoming Unity 8 with Mir, even though Unity 7.4 came much more improved and faster.
Like any Linux operating system, Ubuntu 16.04 also accepts too many configurations. I personally do not try to change the style of the functional but to bring it closer to my own needs. Below we will see what changes I'm making to the operating system immediately after installing it.
I first remove the applications I do not use, select which applications you do not want and change the following command to your measure:
sudo apt-get remove yelp thunderbird rhythmbox eog
Update your system:
Move the Unity Launcher (without Unity Tweak)
Bottom:
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Launcher launcher-position Bottom
Left:
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Launcher launcher-position Left
If you need the Unity Tweak Tool
sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool
Put your name on the top bar with a terminal
gsettings set com.canonical.indicator.session show-real-name-on-panel true
To remove it:
gsettings set com.canonical.indicator.session show-real-name-on-panel false
Η minimize with one click was released from earlier versions of Ubuntu but was disabled by default. The feature is not supported by Ubuntu 16.04, but it still works if you enable it from compiz setting manager.
To install the compiz setting manager use the following command at the terminal:
gsettings set org.compiz.unityshell: / org / compiz / profiles / unity / plugins / unityshell / launcher-minimize-window true
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
Disable the System Crash Reports
sudo gedit / etc / default / apport
ή
sudo nano / etc / default / apport
depending on the editor you are using. To exit and save nano files use Ctrl + X (more shortcuts).
When it opens you will see "enabled = 1". Change it to "enabled = 0". Save and close the file.
Then run the following command in the terminal to stop the apport service:
sudo service apport stop
Install Restricted Extras:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
Installing Codecs and Enabling DVD Playback:
sudo apt-get install ffmpeg gxine libdvdread4 icedax tagtool libdvd-pkg easytag id3tool lame libxinexNUMX-ffmpeg nautilus-script-audio-convert libmad2 mpg0 libavcodec-extra gstreamer321-libav
Of course there are many other things you can do. Do you have something to suggest? Leave your comment.
