Canonical's Brian Murray published recently a timetable for the upcoming release of the operating system Ubuntu LTS 22.04.
While Canonical continues to prepare for the upcoming release of Ubuntu 21.10 (Impish Indri) which will be available on October 14, 2021, it is also planning the next Ubuntu 22.04.
Ubuntu 22.04 will not be a regular version. It will be the next LTS series (Long-Term Support), and will be supported for at least 5 years. According to the release program published by Brian Murray, the development will start one week after the release of Ubuntu 21.10, on October 21.
The Ubuntu 22.04 LTS release schedule shows the stage Feature Freeze is set for February 24th, along with the Debian Import Freeze, while the stages Kernel Freeze and Final Freeze are scheduled for April 7th and 14th respectively.
After six months of development-work, the final version will be released on April 21, 2022.
Of course, it is too early to know the new features of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, but as a long-term supported version, Canonical will choose the highly tested packages for more stability and reliability.
